The Children’s Behavioral Knowledge Center is pleased to introduce our newest workforce initiative, BIPOC Early Career Development Learning Community: The BIPOC Legacy Project. The BIPOC Legacy Project is a professional mentorship and learning community designed specifically for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Mental Health Practitioners who wish to deepen their clinical practice with youth and families, advance their professional development, and receive support from peers and seasoned professionals.
The program will run monthly for nine months and will include capacity-building group sessions that will be facilitated by Phillip A. Laidlaw, Psy.D., a Licensed Psychologist. Dr. Phil has extensive experience in supervising, teaching and mentoring clinicians of color. The program will be delivered virtually and consist of various capacity-building approaches, including didactic presentations, group discussions, and experiential exercises. In addition to group learning, each participant will have up to two individual coaching sessions with a facilitator to support their implementation of the practices addressed in the group sessions. This program will have two new cohorts and one cohort for returning BIPOC Legacy Project members.
Participants will learn:
A process to select and develop expertise in specific therapeutic approaches of interest
Professional mentoring skills
Interventions to support BIPOC clients
Best practices for working in community behavioral health settings
Understanding and developing leadership within behavioral health organizations
Skills for managing work stress and burnout
Strategies to get the most out of supervision
Strategies for addressing racism in the workplace
Career development phases and processes, including credentialing, becoming clinical supervisors

This program will have two new cohorts and one cohort for returning BIPOC Legacy project members.
Cohort Dates- Begin October 2025
Cohort 1: 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 11:00am-12:30pm
Cohort 2: 4th Wednesdays of the month from 11:00am-12:30pm
An in-person retreat will be held in June of 2026 – Location TBD

Eligibility
Identify as Black, Indigenous or Person of Color (BIPOC)
Be an unlicensed Mental Health Practitioner
Have less than 5 years post graduate experience
Employed by youth and families serving agency within community mental health/ public settings.
Commitment to monthly virtual meetings and individual settings.
Supervisor support of participation and agreement to attend supervisor orientation
