Core Element Overview
Engagement is the process of building collaborative, trusting relationships between youth, families, and service providers to empower and educate caregivers, build community, and support the active participation of youth and families in services. Engagement is not a single point in time, but rather ongoing mutual participation that is grounded in respectful curiosity about the family’s strengths and needs. It involves empathy, careful listening, sensitivity, humor, transparency, compassion, and understanding the family’s culture.
