Core Element Overview

A Family Partner talks with a caregiver about many aspects of their life and experience. These conversations help the Family Partner understand how the caregiver approaches parenting their child (“parenting culture”), which in turn allows the Family Partner to support the caregiver in creating the family life they want and in getting the services that can help their child and family. It also helps the Family Partner find ways to empower the caregiver and family and bring them hope in times of despair. These conversations may be difficult and emotional for the caregiver, so the Family Partner must approach them carefully, and only at times when the caregiver is willing and able to participate. Because of Family Partners’ own lived experience, they can provide a uniquely powerful support.
