  • DoubleTree Westborough Hotel 5400 Computer Dr, Westborough, MA 01581 (map)

The Massachusetts Department of Mental Health Restraint/Seclusion Prevention Initiative is excited to announce:

Addressing Trauma: Different Approaches, Different Settings & Different Countries Grand Rounds.

This training will consist of two speakers:

Jake Lukas, RSW, MBASW will present on the successful implementation of the Six Core Strategies at Novalis Trust, a person centered trauma informed care program for adults and school for children and young adults. He will describe the moral panic in which staff and young adults were becoming traumatized by inspectors which resulted in a reductionist approach in inspecting children’s services. He will also describe the evolution of trauma informed care at his agency and its growth within the UK and Europe as well as Novalis’ journey from being trauma organized to being trauma informed.

Laurie Leitch, Ph.D. will discuss the future of Trauma Informed Care and the rationale behind the Social Resilience Model (SRM) that was developed by the Threshold GlobalWorks, (TGW) an organization that she co-founded. In addition, Dr. Leitch will detail core concepts rooted in neuroscience to build resilience, and identify SRM skills and explain their role in treating trauma.
